So I was able to watch the Mayweather/Hatton fight in peace and quiet last night. No screaming people, no nacho chips flying across the room, no gin and tonics spilling on my head.
Without a doubt it was a tough fight to score because the punch stats did not necessarily jive up with the look of the fight. I read a few fight reporters ripping into Harold Lederman for having it so close, and actually having Hatton ahead after 6 rounds. After I added up my scorecard I had it the exact same as Lederman, 57-56 for Hatton after 6, and 86-84 for Mayweather after 9. If Joe Cortez did not take a point away for Hatton on a borderline punch behind the head foul he would of won the 6th round too instead of only getting a 9-9. The real turning point of the fight was the 8th when Floyd clocked him good. After that he was able to pick and choose his punches and finally sealed the deal in the 10th. I really don't think Hatton was outclassed as some people are saying. I think his game plan did not pan out. Too much mauling and smothering, not enough punching. He made it very difficult for Floyd to tee off when they were in the corners but Hatton was not getting off enough clean shots when he had the chance. When the fight moved to the center of the ring it was all Mayweather. I doubt very much there will be a rematch. Hatton would have to win at least two big fights first, and Floyd has other business to attend to in boxing, assuming he even wants to box anymore.
So where does Floyd stand as of today in regards to "pound for pound" the best? As of today, yes he is the best pound for pound fighter in the world, but as for all time, he can't be in that discussion yet. In my humble opinion he needs at least one more fight and possibly two more to get into that discussion. First he must beat the WBA welterweight champ Miguel Cotto, that's priority one. After that I would love to see him fight the 6' 1 WBO champ Paul Williams (reminds me of Thomas Hearns). Before that fight happens though Williams need to defend his belt at least once to "earn" a fight with Mayweather. Those are two tough fights with two real welterweights. Cotto will provide the power and accuracy that Hatton did not bring, and Paul Williams with his freakish height should provide a lot of trouble with a huge reach advantage.
Come on Floyd two more for the peeps. Then retire and let the historians figure it all out. I know you are bored of boxing but you DO love those greenbacks. So it's a win win, two more dukes then shut it down.

What can you tell me about Feebee Blu from Nepal? He's one of those Buddhist types that sits on the floor with his rice bowls & at night sneaks out and goes UFC?
He's a weird dude.
Any thoughts about my favourite Jewish puglist, Roman Greenberg in the UK? He has beaten all faiths convincingly. Do you think he could be the Messiah?
I hope so. He is very strong and can do all things. He will never get hurt or injured and will live forever. I will follow him anywhere.
Moishe
Yeah I have seen two or three Greenberg fights. The guy is 27-0 and still has not fought anyone.
Step up Greeny or step out!
