MMA Goes Primetime!! Weekend Fight Schedule

What up What Up Little Fighters?? This weekend boxing takes a back seat to the MMA. We have two exciting cards (for different reasons) happening.

First off on Saturday night, 9pm EST on CBS, MMA goes mainstream when EliteXC shows the first ever card on network TV. And of course the big attraction is the main event which pits James Thompson against Kimbo Slice. This is Kimbo's most legit challenge yet however Mr. Thompson does have a glass jaw so I am sure another Kimbo KO is in the making.
Actually since I missed the Classic Lump this week I will throw you one right now starring James Thomspon and Butterbean:


OK so EliteXC is getting the fanfare because they are the first on network TV (take that Dana White) however the better dukes are on Sunday night when the WEC is on Versus. Jens Pulver against the pretty boy Urijah Faber. This one is going to be fast and furious kiddies so don't blink!

On another note does anyone still watch the Ultimate Fighter on Spike TV? I DVR this show every week and man it blows. It is such a cut n paste basic reality show. Show a scene from the house where the guys are talking trash or getting drunk, show the fighters select the next fight, watch each team train, then show the fight. Seven seasons of the same ol crapola.

Anyways enjoy this wacky ass lump!

Classic Lump Wednesday-The Mayweather Family Soap Opera continues..

Happy Lump Day from your Boy L3!
So as we all wait in "anticipation" for this weekends BIG De La Hoya fight (you smellin the sarcasm here?), I thought we would give you one of Oscar's better moments. I mean it's only fair since last weeks Classic Lump had him on the receiving end of a brutal Hopkins liver shot.
Before we get to that, lets talk about the real drama taking place during this weekends fight, the Mayweather brothers. These guys make the Adam's Family look normal. OK try and follow me here. Floyd Mayweather Sr. was the trainer for both his son and Oscar. He had to make a decision to pick a fighter when they both fought and he picked Oscar. Oscar felt uncomfortable with using his opponents dad as a trainer (small conflict of interest don't you think) so he went with Freddy Roach. So Floyd Sr. goes back to his son's corner and co-trains him with his brother Roger Mayweather. Floyd Sr & Jr. have a falling out and Sr. gets bumped from the training camp. So Floyd Sr. sits in the stands for the Mayweather/De La Hoya fight and roots for Oscar.
With me so far?
So now Oscar De La Hoya is fighting Steve Forbes this weekend. Floyd Sr. is back in the corner of Oscar, and Steve Forbes trainer is Roger Mayweather who has trained him in the past, but......
Floyd Jr. does not like the fact that Roger is training Steve Forbes, because if Steve wins it is going to ruin a huge payday for Floyd in the fall when he is supposed to meet Oscar for a rematch. Basically if Uncle Roger's fighter wins, Floyd can't feed his kids.
Sooo, Roger agrees to step down but Forbes still wants a Mayweather as a trainer so he hires the THIRD brother Jeff Mayweather, who is the more quiet laid back one of the group. As sand falls through the hour glass these are the wacky days of our lives...

OK so back to the Classic Lump, De La Hoya vs. Ricardo Mayorga. Mayorga talked so much smack before this fight. No one in De La Hoya's family was safe from his wrath. Trying to get into Oscar's head did not work though as you can see from the following clip.

Classic Lump Wednesday-Tribute to a Legend who should hang up the gloves

Beautiful day in sunny CT. So this week's classic lump is in tribute to Bernard Hopkins. The man has nothing left to prove, he was a middleweight champ for 10 friggin years! Sadly he probably won't shut it down, but hopefully his does. Let's be honest, he might even win a few more but his fights are never going to be on PPV again, his style is just so not fan friendly. One punch, clinch, one punch, clinch, and he really does not knock anyone out.
However no one can argue about his boxing reign. Just check it out here for yourself.
Before I get to the video highlight I wanted to let you know about some great Amateur boxing coming up to Bridgeport, CT on May 9th, the USA Boxing Olympic Invitational. I saw some fights up there last year and Harbor Yard is a great place to see dukes.

OK so here we go. This punch doesn't look like much but it was a perfectly placed liver shot. Your mind wants to get up off the canvas but your legs have absolutely no interest. You can totally see the frustration in De La Hoya's eyes.

Classic Lump Wednesday

Another cold crappy day in the Tri-State Area. Spring ever gonna show around here? Larry Lump hates the cold! OK so check this lump out from a few years back. Brian Minto vs. Vinny Maddalone I. Minto was down in the first and Maddalone was up on all three score cards going into the 10th round. The slo mo gives a good view of "da shot". They had a rematch a year later and Vinny lost by TKO in the 7th. The Moose Man loved Vinny.

UFC Fight Night-Classic Lump Wednesday-Assorted Rants

Don't bust my chops. I know I didn't post on Monday. Besides the weekend results I had nothin' on my mind so I let it slide like a 6 pack of white castle burgers. I'm starting to tap out my Classic Lump database so if there are any oldies but goodies you want to see again, drop your boy Larry a line and I will dig them up. This week I found a highlight reel of Quinton Rampage Jackson. This guy is a real character, but he has the skills to back it up. He has a must see fight against Forrest Griffen coming up later this year.

Tonight UFC Fight Night 13 takes place on SpikeTv at 7pm. The headliner is Kenny Florian vs. Joe Lauzon. After the fights the premier of Ultimate Fighter 7 takes place. Coaches this year are the above mentioned Jackson and Griffen. Should be a good season!

Anyone see the Mayweather "fight" at Wrestlemania? It was weak weak weak. There was more excitement when the fireworks show went out of control and landed into the crowd (that one was not planned). Luckily no one was injured.

Looks like the discussed Roy Jones Jr. vs. Anderson Silva boxing match ain't gonna happen. Big bad Dana White, President of the UFC, pulled ranked and said no way jose, don't even think about it. When some of the UFC superstar contracts start coming to an end you are going to see a mass exodus. UFC is not the only show in town these days, these fighters got options now.

Oh by the way I have been trying to snag a one on one interview with Da Moose for about two weeks now. That damn animal is evasive. I sneak up to him, Moose Munch in hand, and just as I am about to reach him he darts off, usually chasing fawns for a little Moose lovin (not a pretty sight). Don't worry though your boy L3 is still on the case!

Edwin Valero to box in the USA-Classic Lump Wednesday

Relax, relax, Larry is back in full effect. No half ass post today. Before I get to the double Lump treat let me tell you a little something about one of the best knockout artists in boxing right now that you never heard of. His name is Edwin Valero, the current WBA Jr. Lightweight champ. 23-0 with 23 KO's. He had first round KO's in his first 12 fights. The Gatti-Ward Trilogy is one of the best boxing battles in my lifetime. The first video is a highlight of all three fights, the second one is round 9 of the first fight which is just out of control. For all those living on another planet, Ward won the first one by decision, Gatti won the next two by decision.

MMA Star wants to take a shot at Boxing-Classic Lump Wednesday

We always hear about boxers saying that they would dominate the sport of MMA. Some of them actually give it a shot (and fail miserably). So now there is a story going around that one of the pound for pound best MMA fighters in the world, Anderson Silva, wants to take on Roy Jones Jr. in a boxing match. I wish these athletes would stop this silliness and just focus on their own sports. Roy Jones would get killed in a MMA match against Anderson Silva and Anderson Silva would get killed in a boxing match with Roy Jones. Case closed.
So I know I am late to the party but I saw the replay of that John Duddy/Walid Smichet fight from a few weeks ago. All I can say is that the best thing that happened to Duddy was that he got his face smashed and cut up. Because due to those cuts he can't fight Pavlik even if he wanted to. Pavlik would of killed him. I scored the fight 95-95 draw, he was lucky to get the decision. The guy takes way too many punches and is a bleeder. Exciting fighter, but not champ material. He is kind of like an Irish Gatti.
OK so I know I will piss a few people off this week but I am giving you another "non-conventional" Classic Lump. This is a tribute to one of the greatest Hockey Brawlers of all time, Tie Domi. I loved it when he would beat the crap out of someone and then pretend he just won the belt. You will see him do it in this clip. Even the fans were not safe from Tie! Enjoy.

Quinton Jackson vs. Forrest Griffen Announced! Classic Lump Wednesday

UFC fans get ready for a Real Deal Slobber Knocker on July 5th when Quinton Jackson puts his Light Heavyweight Belt on the line against crowd favorite Forrest Griffen. Let me tell ya, this one has the makings of a classic. These two cats can Bump N Lump with the best of them! Right now my nod goes to Jackson due to experience but I'm not making a pick on this one yet.

OK so I can't believe I have not posted this Classic Lump Yet. May 7th, 2005 Corrales vs. Castillo for the WBC and WBO Lightweight Titles. This was easily the fight of the year. Sadly "Chico" Corrales lost his life in a motorcycle accident exactly two years from the date of this classic. Rematches were made but Castillo did not make weight TWICE!
RIP Chico.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. the latest pro athlete appearing at WrestleMania. Wednesday's Classic Lump: Pro Boxer vs. Pro Wrestler

What would you do for $20 Million dollars?
Hardcore training for 3-4 months, and then box in a real match against a top opponent OR show up and fake a fight at Pro Wrestling's Super Bowl in a "match" that will probably last less than 15 minutes? Well Floyd Mayweather Jr. chose both options when he fought Ricky Hatton and then agreed to "wrestle" the Big Show at WrestleMania next month.
People are saying that this makes Floyd look like a fool, and someone who should not be taken seriously as a real boxer. Are you nuts!!! This does not tarnish his boxing record at all. It's one of the easiest (legal) ways anyone has used their fame to earn a quick 20 Mil in the history of the world! It's a no brainer, take the loot Floyd. But here are some points to consider.
1. Is Vince McMahon getting in over his head? That's a ton of coin to shell out. Wrestling has been struggling these days, is he really going to make it back on PPV buys?
2. Is Floyd really getting 20 Million or is it more Pro Wrestling phoniness to hype up the event?
I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case. Even if Pretty Boy is making $5 Million it's a great deal for him.
3. I wonder how the Pro Wrestlers feel about this, will Floyd be welcomed into the fraternity or given the cold shoulder? Fake or not these guys bust their ass and put their bodies through hell. They are on the road for about 300 days a year and no one, I mean no one, is making that kind of ducketts, including the icon Hulk Hogan. I hope the Big Show throws some "welcome to big time" real smackdowns onto Floyd.
4. What is Floyd really going to do? A full blown match such as when LT fought Bam Bam Bigelow? Or is going to be a one punch appearance like Tyson and Stone Cold Steve Austin?

As for Willy's comparison of this to Mike Tyson appearing at a WrestleMania, well there is no comparison. Tyson was done with boxing, past his prime, and had serious financial issues. He HAD to do it. Floyd on the other hand is at the top of his game and due to his fame was spoon fed an offer he could not refuse. Once again a no brainer.

So lets talk about pro Athletes showing up at WrestleManias. What was your favorite match up? Mr. T vs Roddy Piper? LT vs. Bam Bam Bigelow? The Mike Tyson appearance? William "The Fridge" Perry? Larry Lump has a favorite. When Pete Rose got his butt handed to him by Kane three consecutive years. That was good stuff!

So here is a great transition to this weeks Classic Lump. At WrestleMania XV there actually was a legit boxing match between a "real" boxer and a WWE Wrestler. The event was a Tough Man Style competition called Brawl For All. Take a look at the finale and see how the Wrestler did against the Boxer when things got real.

Wednesday Classic Lump

Sometimes you got switch it up a bit, not all Classic Lumps have to actually be real, they only have to be "Classic". So let's go back in time. The year was 1984.
The California Karate Championship. Final match, Daniel Larusso vs. Johnny Lawrence. This was the Flying Crane Kick heard 'round the world. (Man, that punk kid screaming in the background is annoying!).

Wednesday's Classic Lump

You heard it right, Classic Lumps has moved to Wednesdays my friends. I got a doozie for ya though. March 1990. Chavez vs. Taylor 1. Going into the 12th and final round Harold Lederman had the fight 108-101 for Taylor, basically it was a blowout and Chavez was about to lose his first fight and the title. Ahhh but this is boxing my friends and sometimes things get a little wacky (to say the least).....

Classic Lump Tuesday-Brock Lesnar getting some air

So Brock Lesnar makes his UFC debut this weekend. I got to tell you I am rooting for Brock to be legit. Regardless if you love him or hate him, if he got MMA skills, the potential for big names calling him out will be insane. It will be a win for MMA fans.
So this week check one of the greatest Lesnar highlights from his WWE days (he only had one MMA match so far and it was pretty lame). Trust me if you have not seen this highlight yet it is a total "Holy S@#t" moment. Enjoy!

So yesterday I said adios to wrestling on BUMPnLUMP. Well lets send em out in style with a tribute to one of the most insane wrestlers I have ever seen, Mick Foley, aka Mankind, aka Cactus Jack, aka Dude Love. How he is still alive and has full movement of all his limbs boggles my mind. Say whatever you want about wrestling being fake, but getting thrown off cages 50 feet up in the air hurts anyway you look at it (especially when you land on hundreds of thumbtacks). Enjoy the hardcore legend. And yes that is his tooth sticking out of his nose.

What up kiddies? Well last week we highlighted Roy Jones Jr. so this week Trinidad is up.
We are going to go back, waay back to the year 2000. Round 12 Felix Trinidad vs. Fernando Vargas. On another note I just read that Trinidad is already looking past Roy Jones and calling out Joe Calzaghe. Basta Basta Felix, slow your roll and TRY to take care of business on Saturday night first Hesse.

1st Classic Lump of 2008

Oh man, Larry got Lumped last night, hence the late post. Gonna keep this one short and sweet.
This weeks Classic Lump stars one of the hardest hitting white boys in boxing history, Tommy Morrison. The guy had great natural strength and talent, but unfortunately he was poorly managed and let fame and a taste of fortune get to his head, plus he had a weak chin. Of course a positive HIV test kind of put a small kink is his boxing career as well (even though he is allegedly cured from the disease), but damn his fights were exciting.
