Don King Snore Fest-Mayweather at Wrestlemania-Weekend Fight Schedule

So I am sitting here watching the Corey Spinks Verno Philips fight on http://www.donkingtv.com/.

It was nice of Don to give this idea a shot, unfortunately the fight blows, and my ass hurts from sitting at the computer for so long. The crowd is now booing. What surprises me is there is 0 advertising going on. No web banners, no ads in between rounds, no links, nada. If Don is going to post these fights online he is missing out on some good ad revenue.

As for fights this weekend nothing got Larry Lump Lump too Pump Pumped, so no picks from me. The best pound for pound boxer in the world is on PPV this weekend though, at Wrestlemania. I wonder what Vince has up his sleeve for this one? It has the potential of being a huge bust, I just don't see Floyd taking ANY chances of getting an injury goofing around in the squared circle. Tyson vs. Holyfield III? MMA coming to CBS, and it's not the UFC? Weekend Fight Schedule

Lumpy Lumps come out and Plaaaaay. Yoooooooooooooooooo what up kids? Time to do work son, do work! Your Boy Larry doesn't have any picks this weekend but I am sure Da Moose Man will find some underground exotics for you and your bookie to play.

Before we go over the fight schedule lets go over some interesting news over the last few days in both Boxing and MMA. It says a lot about the direction each of these sports is going.

Besides Floyd Mayweather participating in WrestleMania on March 30th we also found out that Evander Holyfield and Iron Mike Tyson are in discussions about fighting again. Haven't enough body parts been bitten off already? I'm not sure who looks more desperate in this situation. Mike is the obvious choice for these shenanigans, but now the Real Deal is going down this path as well? The crazy part is that if the promoters did this right they would probably get me to order this mess on PPV. First of all it can't be more than $19.99. Secondly they should have 3 fights in total, 2 legit fights with up and coming known names and then the old men can get it on in their 6-8 rounder. Reality of the matter is that if it does happen it will probably go for $45, have about 2 hours of pre show BS showing all old clips and then these two fools will go out and basically spar for 4 rounds. Neither will end up throwing any haymakers. The heavyweight division is a straight up SNAFU.

OK so on the other side of the coin does the UFC finally have some legit competition? CBS has just signed a deal with Elite XC, which is the league that is shown on Showtime and also where Kimbo Slice is contracted. The deal seems to state that CBS will air four 2 hour shows per year during Prime Time on Saturday nights. First show should take place in April and Kimbo will be the headliner. WOW. They actually got on network TV before the UFC, pretty impressive. I hope it works but in reality it is probably going to be a bust. Why?

1. MMA is hot, but it is still such a niche sport. 3-4 million viewers are great numbers for Cable or PPV but its just average ratings for a network show.

2. Other than Kimbo they really don't have any well known names.

3. Fight shows have basically been a bust on network TV and usually end up finding their place on basic cable. When is the last time you saw boxing on network TV? How about the Contender? Total flop when on NBC. WWE tried some shows on NBC as well and that failed.

I guess only time will tell.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. the latest pro athlete appearing at WrestleMania. Wednesday's Classic Lump: Pro Boxer vs. Pro Wrestler

What would you do for $20 Million dollars?
Hardcore training for 3-4 months, and then box in a real match against a top opponent OR show up and fake a fight at Pro Wrestling's Super Bowl in a "match" that will probably last less than 15 minutes? Well Floyd Mayweather Jr. chose both options when he fought Ricky Hatton and then agreed to "wrestle" the Big Show at WrestleMania next month.
People are saying that this makes Floyd look like a fool, and someone who should not be taken seriously as a real boxer. Are you nuts!!! This does not tarnish his boxing record at all. It's one of the easiest (legal) ways anyone has used their fame to earn a quick 20 Mil in the history of the world! It's a no brainer, take the loot Floyd. But here are some points to consider.
1. Is Vince McMahon getting in over his head? That's a ton of coin to shell out. Wrestling has been struggling these days, is he really going to make it back on PPV buys?
2. Is Floyd really getting 20 Million or is it more Pro Wrestling phoniness to hype up the event?
I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case. Even if Pretty Boy is making $5 Million it's a great deal for him.
3. I wonder how the Pro Wrestlers feel about this, will Floyd be welcomed into the fraternity or given the cold shoulder? Fake or not these guys bust their ass and put their bodies through hell. They are on the road for about 300 days a year and no one, I mean no one, is making that kind of ducketts, including the icon Hulk Hogan. I hope the Big Show throws some "welcome to big time" real smackdowns onto Floyd.
4. What is Floyd really going to do? A full blown match such as when LT fought Bam Bam Bigelow? Or is going to be a one punch appearance like Tyson and Stone Cold Steve Austin?

As for Willy's comparison of this to Mike Tyson appearing at a WrestleMania, well there is no comparison. Tyson was done with boxing, past his prime, and had serious financial issues. He HAD to do it. Floyd on the other hand is at the top of his game and due to his fame was spoon fed an offer he could not refuse. Once again a no brainer.

So lets talk about pro Athletes showing up at WrestleManias. What was your favorite match up? Mr. T vs Roddy Piper? LT vs. Bam Bam Bigelow? The Mike Tyson appearance? William "The Fridge" Perry? Larry Lump has a favorite. When Pete Rose got his butt handed to him by Kane three consecutive years. That was good stuff!

So here is a great transition to this weeks Classic Lump. At WrestleMania XV there actually was a legit boxing match between a "real" boxer and a WWE Wrestler. The event was a Tough Man Style competition called Brawl For All. Take a look at the finale and see how the Wrestler did against the Boxer when things got real.

Classic Lump Tuesday-Brock Lesnar getting some air

So Brock Lesnar makes his UFC debut this weekend. I got to tell you I am rooting for Brock to be legit. Regardless if you love him or hate him, if he got MMA skills, the potential for big names calling him out will be insane. It will be a win for MMA fans.
So this week check one of the greatest Lesnar highlights from his WWE days (he only had one MMA match so far and it was pretty lame). Trust me if you have not seen this highlight yet it is a total "Holy S@#t" moment. Enjoy!

So yesterday I said adios to wrestling on BUMPnLUMP. Well lets send em out in style with a tribute to one of the most insane wrestlers I have ever seen, Mick Foley, aka Mankind, aka Cactus Jack, aka Dude Love. How he is still alive and has full movement of all his limbs boggles my mind. Say whatever you want about wrestling being fake, but getting thrown off cages 50 feet up in the air hurts anyway you look at it (especially when you land on hundreds of thumbtacks). Enjoy the hardcore legend. And yes that is his tooth sticking out of his nose.

Did you hear about the two big, gigantic, blockbuster, must see TV heavyweight titles fights scheduled for early 2008? You didn't? What the hell type of fight fan are you? Jeez, well let me remind you what everyone else has already marked down on their calendars.
Jan 19th, Duesseldorf Germany- Matt Skelton (21-1) will challenge Ruslan Chagaev (22-0-1) for his WBA belt. Who, what, where? What a comedy. If they even attempt to put this nonsense on PPV Larry Lump Lump is gonna have to give someone the bump bump.
OK OK I was just joking about that one, I understand if you did not know either of those guys. These next two though you gotta know about.
Feb 23rd at Madison Square Garden-WBO Champ Sultan Ibragimov (22-0-1) will battle IBF champ Wladamir Klitschko (49-3) in the first heavyweight unification bout in 8 years! Finally we will know who the true heavyweight champ of the world is.
Oh my Lumpness, what a total mess! For decades the heavyweights were in the marque boxing division, but since Lennox Lewis retired it has been a complete joke and it doesn't look like it's getting better anytime soon. If boxing didn't have the welterweight and middleweight divisions right now it would be dead in the water.

OK enough of that nonsense. You guys hear that Big John McCarthy is retiring after Saturdays Ultimate Fighter Finale (9pm SpikeTV)? For all you fair weather fans, if you saw only one UFC fight in your life you probably saw Big John as a referee. He has been around since UFC 2 and has reffed in 98 of 100 UFC fights. You didn't want to mess with Big John, he rules the Octagon. He is only 45 years old and will now become a MMA Analyst with the Fight Network.

OK this is great, American Gladiators is coming back to TV. Remember that show, when average Joe Schmo's got their ass handed to them by juiced up guys and girls in multiple competitions? The new version starts up Jan. 6th 9pm on NBC. Hosts will be Laila Ali and Hulk Hogan. All his checks will probably get directly deposited into his soon to be ex wife's checking account.

Hulk Hogan getting Divorce, plus weekend fight results

Say it ain't so Hulkster! After 23 years of marriage his wife Linda wants out. Even worse, Hulk heard the news from a reporter while driving in his car. Not sure if anyone watches their reality show on VH1, but they did talk about getting divorced this year but it seemed like they were able to patch things up. Adding to this mess is that their son Nick is in some major legal trouble for crashing his ride while street racing. His passenger has serious brain damage and could possibly die. I feel for ya Hulk, from the show it seemed like you were the only real revenue generator (although Brooke is starting up her singing career) and now you are going to lose almost all of it between your wife and your son's legal woes. I'm sure Vince McMahon has a financial solution if you want to make another deal with the devil.

As for the Mayorga/Vargas fight it played out ALMOST as predicted, there were 2 knockdowns but amazingly it went to the scorecard. Mayorga got the win and Larry Lump got another pick right but I also have to give props to a BUMPnLUMP reader named MOOSE who is now 5-0. He writes some "eccentric" posts from time to time but when it comes to noses and fights he always picks a winner! Nice job.

Mayweather Hatton 24/7 was great again last night. Damn show, I was not going to pay for this fight but now if I can't mooch off someone else I am going to have to shell out the loot. I really think Ricky has a shot to upset Pretty Boy Floyd. If you haven't started watching this show yet, what the hell you waiting for???

Mancini-Kim 25 Years Later-Plus Pro Wrestling Classic Lump

Lump Lump can't sleep so he decided to reminisce today about the mid 80's. On a somber note, today marks the 25th anniversary of the Boom Boom Mancini/Deuk Koo Kim fight. Kim lost the fight, and five days later lost his life due to brain injuries sustained from the fight. Not only did the outcome send Mancini into deep depression, but Kim's mother and the bout's referee both committed suicide within a few months after the fight. The WBC also changed their championships fights from 15 rounds to 12. Larry was just a wee Lump back in 83 so I don't remember much of it, any other elder Lumpsters out there recall the fight? ESPN Classic will have 2 documentaries on tonight starting at 8pm EST.

OK now on to another topic. A few of you'se commenter's have been asking for some pro wrestling posts. Well Larry Lump enjoyed Pro Wrestling from about the early 80's to the late 90's. After Stone Cold and The Rock were done lacing up the boots on a full time basis I was pretty much done. However this week on Classic Lump lets take it back, waaay back. The date was March 29th, 1987. The place, the Pontiac Silver Dome. The event, Wrestlemania III, where the largest recorded attendance for a live indoor sporting event (93, 173) went absolutely crazy. Many people think this was the peak of Pro Wrestling. The "Magic" happens at -2:32 during the video.

Ex WWE champ to UFC

Big boy Brock Lesnar from past WWE famed has signed with the UFC. Should be interesting to see if Brock can make the transition. To his credit, he was an All American collegiate wrestler and won a few NCAA cham-pee-on-ships back in the day. So is he the new face of the UFC heavyweight division? With Randy Couture saying adios and the inability of the UFC to sign Fedor Emalianenko he might just be. Lesner has one MMA fight under his belt and he beat the crap out of the guy, but I am sure his opponent was no top 10 guy. You can see the beat down here. No date scheduled for his UFC debut.
