Classic Lump: 49-0 looks to be safe for quite some time

Bruiseday Tuesday for my flock of Lumps. Today is a tribute to the greatest Heavyweight of all time. With the current crop of misfits out there in the Heavyweight division I don't think we have to worry about his record getting broken anytime soon. Enough said for today. Watch and enjoy.

Weekend Fight Results

Good morning from the Land O' Lumps. I feel like I went 10 rounds with Floyd Mayweather Jr. this weekend. Well you know all about that one but did any of you get to see the UFC fights on Saturday night? There were a few good brawls. All I can say is just like boxing, the excitement is in the lower weight classes. I got a good Classic Lump coming tomorrow but I am looking for some suggestions for this weeks poll. Mayweather-Hatton Result

Remember when Pedro Martinez call the Yankees his "Daddy"? Well Floyd Mayweather Jr. you are Larry Lump Lump's Daddy. I wanted you to lose, thought you would lose, but you proved me wrong and at this point I must admit you are the best pound for pound fighter out there. I'm sure my cousin Willy is going to bust my chops about this one. Floyd Mayweather Jr. TKO over Ricky Hatton in the 10th round. Ringside judges had it 89-81 on two cards and 88-82 on another. The fight "looked" like I thought it would, with a lot of clinching, and charging in by Ricky Hatton, but Floyd's counter attack was on point. Ricky Hatton only landed 63 out of 372 punches. At the beginning of this fight you thought it was taking place in the UK with all the singing, flags, and chanting going on. The boo birds were blaring during the US national anthem. Even after Hatton was knocked out his fans were still in full effect chanting his name. What happens now for these two? Floyd is hinting at retirement again and wants to focus on promoting (with Oscar De lay Hoya no less). Makes you wonder about how much pre fight trash talk is real vs fake. However you know everyone (including me) wants to see him fight Miguel Cotto, and when the money is right I am sure Mayweather will take on the challenge. As for Ricky Hatton, it's only his first loss so it's not like he is done. If the Mayweather-Cotto fight does not happen he could fight Cotto, or maybe even Oscar De La Hoya. Overall is was a decent fight, like I said a lot of clinching, but Mayweather earned my respect. Regardless of all the trash he talks, and his out of ring lifestyle, when it comes time to train and fight he is all business. Guess I got to buy two cards this year for Fathers Day.

Mayweather Hatton Prediction. And the winner is....

Hold up wait a minute let me put some LUMP LUMP in it. What up What Up? Up ya What Up ya What? (know what movie that is from?). One more day till the big one baby. Your boy Larry is all pumped and lumped up for this one. So let me get straight to the point and let you know that Ricky Hatton is going to pull off a split decision on this one. Floyd should of lost against De LA Hoya, but for some reason Oscar let him off the hook and did not keep up the pressure in the late rounds. If you recall, after the first six Oscar was up on most cards. Ricky is not going to let that happen. He will bully, grapple, punch hard, and frustrate the crap out of Floyd. Hatton's lack of "boxing" skills will actually be his benefit. Mayweather will put up a great defense, do his usual pitter patter point scoring flurries, but I don't think it will be enough. If the judges go by who is the aggressor and who is bringing the fight, then Ricky Hatton can pull it off. What's going against Ricky? Well a lot. First of all the fight is in Vegas, Floyd's hometown, in regards, city, state, and country! Plus it is for Mayweather's title, so he is the champ, and I always believe in order to win a belt from a champ you need to "take" it from him. If you don't win in a convincing fashion you have not earned it. Of course lets not forget that Mayweather is a great fighter, he has not gotten to where he is because of all the crap he talks, he does back it up. Anyways as long as it doesn't turn into a 3 punch, clinch, 3 punch clinch, affair we should be in for a good one.

I should also mention the under card has an interesting one as well. Jeff Lacy vs. Peter Manfredo. Personally I think Manfredo is all hype, he is just getting these fights because of being on "The Contender" TV show. I think Lacy has way more skillz to pay the billz, but both are coming off surgery's. I still think Lacy should win.

Did you hear about the two big, gigantic, blockbuster, must see TV heavyweight titles fights scheduled for early 2008? You didn't? What the hell type of fight fan are you? Jeez, well let me remind you what everyone else has already marked down on their calendars.
Jan 19th, Duesseldorf Germany- Matt Skelton (21-1) will challenge Ruslan Chagaev (22-0-1) for his WBA belt. Who, what, where? What a comedy. If they even attempt to put this nonsense on PPV Larry Lump Lump is gonna have to give someone the bump bump.
OK OK I was just joking about that one, I understand if you did not know either of those guys. These next two though you gotta know about.
Feb 23rd at Madison Square Garden-WBO Champ Sultan Ibragimov (22-0-1) will battle IBF champ Wladamir Klitschko (49-3) in the first heavyweight unification bout in 8 years! Finally we will know who the true heavyweight champ of the world is.
Oh my Lumpness, what a total mess! For decades the heavyweights were in the marque boxing division, but since Lennox Lewis retired it has been a complete joke and it doesn't look like it's getting better anytime soon. If boxing didn't have the welterweight and middleweight divisions right now it would be dead in the water.

OK enough of that nonsense. You guys hear that Big John McCarthy is retiring after Saturdays Ultimate Fighter Finale (9pm SpikeTV)? For all you fair weather fans, if you saw only one UFC fight in your life you probably saw Big John as a referee. He has been around since UFC 2 and has reffed in 98 of 100 UFC fights. You didn't want to mess with Big John, he rules the Octagon. He is only 45 years old and will now become a MMA Analyst with the Fight Network.

OK this is great, American Gladiators is coming back to TV. Remember that show, when average Joe Schmo's got their ass handed to them by juiced up guys and girls in multiple competitions? The new version starts up Jan. 6th 9pm on NBC. Hosts will be Laila Ali and Hulk Hogan. All his checks will probably get directly deposited into his soon to be ex wife's checking account.

Better late than never-This weeks Classic Lump

What up Lump-a-Holics? Your boy Larry Lump got mad jet lag, just got back in the from the Windy ass city of Chicago. I didn't want to go this week without a Classic Lump and since we have never done one from the world of MMA I have decided to give tribute to the "World's Most Dangerous Man" Ken Shamrock. Yes he is about 10 years past his prime, but he is one of the original UFC guys and since this is called "Classic" Lump I thought it was appropriate. Stay tuned for tomorrow when we really dive into the Mayweather/Hatton Fist-a-Cuffs. Oh one quick note to Cousin Willy, have fun driving home from Chicago in your 1976 Ford F-150. That should be enjoyable!!!

Weekend Boxing Results plus first recorded death in a sanctioned MMA event

I'm posting tonight because I am off to sunny Chicago tomorrow for a few days to take care of a little biz'nis. Just watched the last Mayweather/Hatton 24/7 and I am ready for them to finally get it on. Both are so confident that they are going to prevail, I know who I want to win, but all the stars and planets are going to have to be aligned for it to happen.
This weekend Antonio Tarver and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. both won. They have probably put themselves in a very good position for some big paydays.
On a more somber note the MMA industry had it's first recorded death this weekend when Sam Vasquez of Houston died from injuries sustained in mixed martial arts competition 6 weeks ago in Texas. MMA can no longer claim that they are the only combat sport to never have a fatality.
This is the exact type of ammo politicians would love to use to ban the sport. However, even with this death MMA has had a very good track record of safety. There have been way more deaths and life threatening injuries in sports such as boxing, football, and even motor sports. There can never be enough safety measures put into place and I am sure more will get added after all the facts get reviewed.
