I'm writing this post in Giants Blue in tribute!!. Unreal. Unbelievable. Amazing. Your boy Larry Lump has a few shots and beers in him right now after seeing his NY Giants shock da world against the Patriots. I mean this is one of the biggest upsets in a championship game...period. That last drive was out of control. The play when Manning was 99.5% sacked and then David Tyree catches a pass using his head....just out of control!!! This is one hangover that is worth it!

So about that Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir fight on Saturday night. If you did not see it YouTube has a few links (they probably will be taken down soon so check quick!). Don't forget to sort your search results by Date Added.

I honestly believe that even though Brock had to submit via the knee bar he still has a future in the UFC. Brock controlled 98% of the fight, unfortunelty he did not control the last 2% which is when he got snagged. Classic example of experience winning over strenghth. I mean during the entire fight Brock was landing bombs on Mir's head and I almost thought they were going to stop it at one point. But Mir weathered the storm, missed on an arm bar or two, and finally was able to grab the big man's leg and make him tap out. Honestly I think Dana White jumped the gun on this one. He has the great name brand talent (Lesnar) with huge potential and he puts him in his first UFC fight with an ex-heavyweight champ, co-headlining a PPV event. I mean come on man, why don't you ease the guy into the sport. Let him get 2-3 tune ups under his belt first. Mike Tyson who was the youngest heavyweight champ ever had 27 fights before getting a title shot. He fought a ton of buttercups and no one ever questioned the fact that he was the baddest man on the planet at that time.

Hopefully Brock will regroup, learn some better defense and bounce back in his next MMA fight. As for Mir, he showed heart, smarts, and skills, it was a nice job all around. He deserves a shot at a top 5 contender.

So Brock Lesnar makes his UFC debut this weekend. I got to tell you I am rooting for Brock to be legit. Regardless if you love him or hate him, if he got MMA skills, the potential for big names calling him out will be insane. It will be a win for MMA fans.
So this week check one of the greatest Lesnar highlights from his WWE days (he only had one MMA match so far and it was pretty lame). Trust me if you have not seen this highlight yet it is a total "Holy S@#t" moment. Enjoy!

Weekend Boxing & MMA results/ANOTHER Contender gets in over his head!

Sorry for the late post party peeps. Your boy Larry Lump did not have Internet access for most of the day. So did you hear who Miguel Cotto is fighting in April?. Getting excited now, right? Can't wait for me to tell you, right? Well keep it in your pants tiger, it's Alfonso Gomez from...drum roll please....the Contender TV show! Surprise, surprise, another sacrificial lamb. Now don't get me wrong I like Alfonso Gomez the most out of all of them, but kickin the crap out of a past his prime Arturo Gotti does not put you into a title fight with Miguel Cotto. I can't take it anymore, I just can't. I think these promoters are playing a cruel joke on L Cubed.

OK so I watched that Povetkin/Chambers fight that was on HBO Saturday night. Bore fest deluxe! Chambers is a slow lumbering heavyweight who throws about 10 punches a round, and even though Povetkin stayed very busy throughout the fight, his cardio and power are weak. He was gassed out after 7-8 rounds. Povetkin earned a title fight with Klitschko, and even he admitted after the fight he has a long way to go to hang with Wlamidir. Let's be honest, he is going to get his ass handed to him. A guy with only 15 fights against second rate opponents should not be getting title fights.

Oh check it out, Ray Mercer lost his fight to some no name dude this weekend in China. I bet the trip over there cost more than the paycheck he got.

Weekend Boxing Schedule

Weekend is almost here party peeps and lady lumps! Your boy Larry is gonna get his groove back, gonna break off a little sumptin sumptin. Word to Big Bird.
So let's yap about some heavyweights that are on tap this weekend.
First of all Ray Mercer fighting some chooch in China? What up Ray, you must be fighting to stay off that Government Cheese at this point. Last time I heard about you Kimbo Slice beat you down in an MMA fight in about 2 minutes. Come on man, shut it down, shut it down. You had decent run back in the day.

Now how about this Heavyweight eliminator fight on Saturday in Germany (HBO)? You got
Alexander Povetkin (14-0, 11 KOs) vs. Eddie Chambers (30-0, 16 KOs) with the winner earning a title shot against IBF champion Wladimir Klitschko. Two things come to mind. Chambers has a 30-0 record and is still waiting for his first title shot? On the other hand you have Povetkin who is only 14-0 and if he wins on Saturday he gets a title shot. 1/2 the fights for the same opportunity? So Chambers either has a horrible manager or has fought some horrible opponents. After looking at his record it is probably a little of both. I have to be honest I don't really know much about either of these guys so Larry is gonna zip it until he sees them in action. On paper though I am not predicting we are going to see the next big thing in the division come out of this one. They both beat Chris Byrd, but big deal.

See now Larry Lump is acting like Larry Grump so let me get off my mini horse and take a chill until I see how this one pans out.

Another "Pretender" over his head, fights I wan't to see in 2008 (that won't happen), will Brock Lesnar be the next big thing (again)

What up my Lumpelstilskins? Feels like your boy Larry hasn't yapped for a while. Did ya miss me? Don't answer that.

So lets start off with a joke. Oscar De La Hoya vs. Steve Forbes. Let's start off with another joke, Oscar De La Hoya vs. Floyd Mayweather Part II. And one more joke, Oscar De La Hoya wants to fight 3 times in 2008. To all you out there that like brain teasers what is the common factor in all three jokes? That's right girls and boys, Oscar De La Hoya! I had a lot of respect for the Golden Boy after his split decision loss with Floyd, if he kept up the pressure he would have actually won, but this 2008 plan is a scam job.

Joke 1: Fighting Steve Forbes, another Contender TV show contestant. You know how I feel about these chooches, they are all getting big time fights they don't deserve, and they keep gettin blown out of the water. In May when this fight takes place the same thing will happen. At least it won't be on PPV, but I hear that Paulie Malignaggi was an option who is a current champ. Plus Paulie likes to yap and would of hyped up the fight. Oscar still probably would of won but at least that would of been a respectable non PPV fight that the "fans" would have some interest in.

Joke 2: Rematch with Floyd? What the hell is the point? Yes the first was close but that's not why they are doing this. They both want to cash in on a phat payday. I hope they get burned on the PPV sales this time around. Shame on you Floyd for ducking Cotto and choosing this path instead.

Joke 3: 3 fights this year for Oscar? When, who, why? It ain't gonna happen.

So what fights do I want to see in 08 that won't happen?

1. Miguel Cotto vs. Floyd Mayweather. This is the mega fight in my 'pinion. Unfortunately due to the mess I just wrote about, it doesn't seem like its going to happen. Floyd, your all time great status is not going to happen going this route.

2. Sam Peter vs. Wladimir Klitschko. These guys met a few years ago and Peter put the big Ukranian on his ass 3 times in the fight and still lost by a unanimous decision! I didn't get to see the fight but how the hell do you lose by unanimous decision while scoring 3 10-8 rounds? Two big heavy hitters, some semi glass jaws, just what the heavyweight division needs!

3. Kelly Pavlik vs. Joe Calzaghe. How about this one? More speed, more bombs being thrown, me likey.

4. Edison Miranda vs. Kelly Pavlik. To be honest I would rather see this rematch vs. a non title fight rematch between Pavlik and Jermaine Taylor. Miranda and Pavlik are two crazy power punchers that take two shots for every one they land.

So what you guys think, does Larry Lump have a shot as a promoter for the people??

OK finally a little MMA insight. So big Brock Lesnar has his UFC debut on Feb. 2nd. To be honest I am kinda pumped up about this one. They are not putting Brock in with a total chooch like they (not the UFC) did with Kimbo Slice. Plus I think Brock has some skills besides just being a big ass guy. UFC is already talking about him being a headliner at a UFC PPV for this summer. Of course he needs to seal the deal in early Feb. before he gets to be a main attraction.

So there you have it, a bunch of stuff for you to lump on my peeps.

So Willy was a little off with his pick on the Jones/Trinidad fight this past Saturday, although I did call the winner flat out. I thought Jones would take him out.

On to the next…..

Looks like Hopkins & Calzaghe has come to reality. Set for April 19th in Vegas @ 175lbs.
I said in my last post that I feel as if Hopkins does not fight for the sport nor does he have that hunger anymore, but there is no denying his accomplishments he was a great champion.
My early impression…..loving this fight!

Already feeling like early 2008 fights will top all of 2007.

In the Heavyweight division, look for the Oleg Maskaev/Sam Peter fight scheduled for March 8th…..

This also should be an excellent fight, after the Sam Peter/James Toney, I was sure that Sam Peter was a beast and had potentially the best chance to unify the division. To my surprise this has not been in the cards for him with some tough fights and now it seems that he has been exposed with a potential glass jaw, then again there is a current heavyweight champ with that same problem. I look for this to be a decent fight, when is the last time you saw a decent heavyweight fight? On this undercard look for the forever exciting Jon Ruiz vs Jameel McCline, can anyone stand to watch another John Ruiz fight?

Finally my Holy Crap fight!

Oscar De La Hoya vs Steve Forbes sometime in May!

De La Hoya is proposing three final fights, or “farewell fights” if you must.

This is going to drive Triple L crazy, as another “Contender” gets a high profile fight. Steve Forbes was the runner-up in Season Two of the Contender and is former IBF Super Featherweight Champion. This fight will take place at 150lbs, which means that Forbes is coming up from 130. I will let you make the prediction on this one now since there is no reason to wait until May! While you have Paulie Malignaggi floating out in the middle of the fight sea, this is what we are subjected to watch. Good choice Golden Boy!

Then we wonder why the fight game is in the toilet. It’s fights like this! I would rather watch classic fights on ESPN.
